scholarships

Here's the list of scholarships I promised :D

If you did remarkably well for your SPM or STPM, I strongly encourage you guys to apply for the following:

  1. First and foremost, it has to be JPA scholarship. Almost every single out there aims for this scholarship of all time, unless souls who live under the rock of course. JPA offers a pretty good deal. The gov pays for all your expenses, from pre-u till your first degree but there's a bond. The bond length is not more than 10 years though. The pay that they offer you after graduation might be slightly lower than other private companies but hey, looking at the bright side, you have a secured job for that certain period. The last time I checked, the application opens until 17th March 2010 only. Yes, the application is only opened for a week right after the release of SPM results.
  2. The Star
  3. Kuok Foundation Scholarship
  4. Honda Dreams Fund. If you're capable of writing a superb essay about yourself, you stand a great chance to get the scholarship!
  5. Yayasan Tunku Abdul Rahman
  6. Khazanah Scholarship Awards
  7. NST - MAPCU
  8. Sin Chew Daily Education Fund
  9. Shell Malaysia
  10. Petronas
  11. HSBC
  12. MARA
  13. ANCHAM - MACHEE
  14. Yayasan TM
  15. Hong Leong
  16. Bank Negara Malaysia
  17. Sime Darby
  18. Dr Goh Keng Swee (GKS) Scholarship - That's not my father. LOL
  19. Singapore Tuition Grant
  20. Singapore Scholarship - Enables you to further your studies to top universities in Singapore such as NUS, NTU etc etc.

There are MANY more out there if you actually bother to do some research but these were the few that were in my list last year :D

Of course, there are bonds when certain companies that offer you scholarships. No free lunch in this world, as they preach ;D

Probably you have to work for them a few years after graduating but hey, it's still a pretty good deal right!

A total of 20 scholarships and if you're eligible for all, then APPLY FOR ALL!

Every chance you take contributes to the probability of receiving a scholarship.

Don't be over confident on one scholarship and put high hopes on it.

You never know what happens in the process of choosing scholars. *coughsCORRUPTIONcoughs*

And if you're able to read this, I'm pretty sure you have access to Mr.Google as well.

Ask Mr. Google to get more informations about the scholarships.

If you do get shortlisted for interviews, read online forums about the interviews.

There are many kind souls out there who wrote about their interview experiences.

Regarding the JPA scholarship, if you managed to get shortlisted and called up for an interview, here are a few tips for you. :D

  1. Read up about current issues because they usually choose current issues to be discussed in the interview. When I went for the interview, they asked me about PPSMI and in local universities, why are there more girls than guys?
  2. Presentation is very important. In cases such as interview, Interviewers' first impression on you will probably be the last impression. Wear a formal suit if possible or otherwise, wear baju kurung. Do not wear some lala outfit which you think it's formal to the interview. (-.-)
  3. Again, read up forums such as Recom.org or Lowyat. There are many posts about the interview every year.
  4. Choose courses that have less competitors. Follow the path that is less taken ;D Courses such as pharmacy, medicine, ACTUARIAL SCIENCE (Yes, I applied for Actuarial Science and ended having 390385903485690346 people applying for the same course! FML!) etc etc. I'm not sure what are the courses that not many people will apply but again, Mr.Google knows better (:
  5. The interview will be in groups of 4 or 5. So don't fret! It will be a very friendly discussion with the interviewers unless you get some nasty interviewer who's probably menopausing or endropausing. That, all depends on your lucky, really.
  6. Pay FULL attention during the interview even if other applicants are talking. Don't let your mind wander off elsewhere because it gives a bad impression.
  7. When you speak, look at all the interviewers. Don't focus on only one and only look at the small little triangle (if you've heard). It's the area from the eyes till the nose. Don't look elsewhere when you speak to them. Such act portrays your lack of self-confidence.
  8. Socialize with the applicants that will be going for the interview with you. Create some you knoww.. teamwork etc etc.. so that your group discussion will turn out well :D While waiting for my interview, I did speak to quite a number of applicants and that's how I found out about PPSMI. Yes, I didn't know about it before that. You can say that I live with Patrick under the rock now. Just my luck, they asked me about PPSMI during group discussion and managed to pull it off. AMEN! :D
  9. Speak good command of BM and English because there will be two discussions. One in English and one in BM. We're very used to using Bahasa Rojak or broken BM but never attempt to be funny or flaunting your great command of English when you're told to carry out the group discussion in BM.
  10. Give other applicants a chance to speak during the group discussion. NEVER EVER dominate the group discussion. It's a NO NO NO NO!
  11. Check all the documents and VERIFY every photostated copy of documents before attending the interview. Arrange them neatly in the pocket file, as you're told to. Check if you have everything before going.
  12. Remember to bring at least a pen and some writing papers! I forgot to do so but managed to get them before the interview :D
